Fax.com Review

Fax.com (www.fax.com) is a service of Data On Call, Inc, which is owned by j2 Global Communications, Inc., with offices in California, Ireland and Hong Kong. j2 Global owns an impressive array of online fax and data services including eFax, TrustFax, RapidFax and Send2Fax.

Plans and Pricing – Fax.com offers only one plan. For $9.99 a month you get one fax number, either local or toll-free, 300 total combined inbound and outbound pages of faxing, an online account portal where you can send and manage received faxes, and 30 days online storage of your received fax files.

Faxes can be sent to anyone in the U.S. or Canada at no additional charge. If you exceed your 300 page allotment of faxes in any given month, additional pages are billed to you at 12 cents each. There is a one-time $9.99 setup fee. International calls are billed on a per-minute basis at rates that vary based on destination.

Sending and Receiving – Sending faxes is as easy as sending an email with an attachment. Simply attach your document to an email using your recipient’s fax number as the user name followed by @fax.com and press SEND. For example, the fax number 1-800-555-1234 becomes the email address 18005551234@fax.com.

When someone sends you a fax, you get an email from Fax.com with your fax attached as either a PDF or TIF formatted file. (Which type of file is determined by you.) Open the file, print it, save it to your hard drive, or email it to an associate. It’s just that easy.

Unlimited Senders – You may link as many email addresses for outbound faxing to your account as you wish. This will speed up the use of your 300 monthly pages. If your office faxes a lot, you may wish to add accounts instead of paying the overage fees.

Online Fax Storage – You are allowed to leave received faxes on the Fax.com servers for up to 30 days at no charge. After the 30th day, however, you will be charged 5 cents per month per fax for each fax. You can avoid the charges by setting up an automatic deletion option that deletes faxes from the Fax.com server before the 30th day.

Fax Numbers and Porting – You can select a local phone number or a toll-free number at no extra charge. Although porting of existing fax numbers is mentioned in the user agreement, it is not mentioned anywhere on the website, nor is an option to port in an existing fax number offered during the registration process.

Additional inbound fax numbers may be added to your account. The costs and services for additional lines is the same as for the primary line.
