FaxPipe Review

FaxPipe (www.faxpipe.com) is a service of AirCom, LLC based in Provo, Utah. AirCom has been an Accredited business with the Better Business Bureau since 2003 and has a BBB rating of A+.

FaxPipe.com is a simple email to fax service that allows any business or individual to receive faxes at a local or toll-free number, and to fax files by attaching them to properly formatted emails.

Faxing Packages

FaxPipe offers their service in five packages based on a specified number of fax pages per month. The two lowest packages are paid on an annual basis and have a higher per-page overage fee. They stack up like this:

• $3.95 ($47.40 single payment) – 25 pages per month, 15 cents per page overage fee.
• $6.95 ($83.40 single payment) – 75 pages per month, 15 cents per page overage fee.
• $12.95 – 300 pages per month, 10 cents per page overage fee.
• $24.95 – 600 pages per month, 10 cents per page overage fee.
• $36.95 – 900 pages per month, 10 cents per page overage fee.

FaxPipe Service Features and Specifics

Most online fax service providers use their website to allow customers to set up and manage their email fax account. FaxPipe.com does not currently have this capability, but they have indicated they are working on it. Any changes or modifications you need to make to your account with FaxPipe have to be accomplished over the phone or through email.

Your monthly fee includes a toll-free fax number. If you want a local number, you can choose one from their list of area codes in eleven states. If you live in an area that is not on the list it is suggested you call them and they will work to provide you with the area code you need.

Inbound faxes arrive in your email inbox as either a .TIF or a .PDF file. You can copy, backup, view and print your faxes with any of a wide number of applications on your computer. TIF files are typically viewed with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer on a Windows computer. PDF files are normally opened with Adobe Reader, a free application that you may already have loaded on your computer.

Outbound faxes sent to recipients within the contiguous 48 states are included in your subscription. International faxes are priced based on the cost to FaxPipe. If you will be sending faxes outside the United States, call FaxPipe’s offices for more information.

If you need to do broadcast faxing, FaxPipe can help you. They have methods to merge customer-specific data from a file you provide into the fax documents as they are processed.

FaxPipe publishes a solid Privacy Policy which indicates the people at FaxPipe will respect the privacy of personal information collected. Their Terms of Service document is concise and easy to understand. Corporate information such as phone, email and physical address are accessible on their site.

Fees

As is the case with most Internet fax service providers, FaxPipe uses the minute as their increment for charging page fees. One page is equivalent to one minute of transmission time.

When you sign up with FaxPipe, you are charged an activation fee of $10.00. There is a $20.00 early termination fee for canceling annual contracts.

As mentioned previously, overage fees are 15 cents per page on the two annual contracts and 10 cents per page on monthly contracts.

File Types For Faxing

Although they cover the basics, compared to some services we have reviewed, FaxPipe’s list of accepted outbound fax file types is limited. Outbound fax file types are the types of files you can attach to an email to be faxed using their service. FaxPipe’s list includes the most common types you are likely to send.

You can attach normally saved MS Word and Excel files, TIF and PDF, Postscript, and WinFax (.fdx) files. HTML, RTF and JPG files may be attached and sent, but they may not appear exactly as seen in the original when they get to the recipient. This potentially reduces the usefulness of that capability.

FaxPipe.com offers a standard service that should meet the basic email fax needs of individuals and small business.
