MetroFax Review

MetroFax (www.metrofax.com) is an online fax service provider based out of Bellvue, Washington. The metrofax.com URL redirects you to metrohispeed.com which is the actual domain name for MetroFax. The company has been in existence since 1979, and an accredited BBB member since August 2005 according to their entry on the Better Business Bureau website.

MetroFax has a single price plan that is offered as both a home office/small business plan and as a corporate plan. This may seem a bit confusing to anyone who is paying attention, but the plan that is offered can be used by any sized business. They provide a form to request a quote for multiple lines.

The Plan – For $12.95 a month you get a combined 1000 pages of faxing. Pages over the 1000 included pages are billed to you at 3 cents each. All calls to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico are included. International calls are billed at varying rates, and require a deposit which is depleted as needed for this type of service.

The Fax Number – MetroFax’s policies discourage number porting. If you have an existing fax number that you would like to have answered by your MetroFax service, you will need to set up forwarding of that number to your new MetroFax number. This means you still have to pay your current phone provider for phone service in addition to MetroFax fees.

MetroFax retains ownership of any fax numbers assigned to you as part of your service agreement. They may “port out” (transfer ownership) your number to you when you leave their service, but they are under no obligation to do so according to their Terms of Service. You should not assume you will get to take the number with you should you leave MetroFax for a different service provider.

Toll-free numbers can be leased for an additional $2.00 per month.

MetroFax Features – MetroFax allows you to send and receive faxes from your computer, smartphone or PDA. You can attach a file using any of 15 different file formats to an email with the recipient’s fax number followed by @metrofax.com in the TO: field and press Send. As long as your email address is attached to your MetroFax account, your message will be received by MetroFax and translated to a fax which is then transmitted to your intended recipient.

Faxes sent to your assigned fax number are received and converted to a PDF or TIF file based on the option you chose when setting up the account. This file is then attached to an email which is sent to your existing email address. There is no online portal with MetroFax.

MetroFax offers exclusively U.S. based customer support.
